Actor Craft Club
Imagine logging on every Sunday to a class that’s on your side. You know the people. You’re working scenes every week. You’re getting better every week, and you can see it.
That’s what the club is. And your first class is a free trial: sit in on one real Sunday class, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Los Angeles time, no charge, no commitment. Get up and work with us, or if you’re more comfortable watching, that’s fine too. Either way you’ll leave knowing what it’s like, and you’ll get precise, incisive notes from an actor and coach who’s been doing this for 20 years.
Free. One trial class per person. Actors 18 and over. No experience needed.
Real acting work, without the commute.
Most acting classes are expensive. They’re across town. You drive, you park, you lose an evening, and then you wait weeks for your turn to get up.
We do the work online, every Sunday, and we do it properly. The medium we’re training for is film and TV, so working on camera isn’t a compromise; it’s the point. You get up and work often, and the price is a fraction of what most classes cost.
The people are down to earth. The coaching is relaxed, with notes that are focused and smart. We’re trying to become smart actors together, and the room feels like that: friends who take the work seriously and don’t take themselves too seriously.
Three steps, and you’re in the room.
Pick a Sunday.
Book the next Sunday that works. Class runs 10 to 11:30 a.m. Los Angeles time. You’ll get the Zoom link by email.
Show up.
Camera on if you can, mic ready. Say hi. However many actors are in the room that week, everyone who wants to work gets up.
Work, or watch.
If you want to get up and work, you will. If you’d rather see how the room runs first, that’s fine too. Nobody is put on the spot.
Every week is a different kind of class.
We call them labs because a lab is a place where you can try anything. Your free class is whichever one falls on the Sunday you pick.
Scene Lab
You’re assigned a scene for the week. Work on it as much or as little as you can, then come work it live, get coached, and go again. We treat it like an audition, because that’s the situation you’ll be in most as an actor, so we talk about how to stand out in auditions as well as the deeper scene work. The core of what we do.
Script Lab
A table read of a TV or film script. We break it down together: what’s underneath the lines, who these people are, what they want.
Audition Lab
Film a self-tape, watch it back in the room, then work it live. It runs like a callback with the director: I’m the director, you’re the actor, you get notes and adjust in real time.
Everything is scene-study based and plain-language. If you’ve done the free 5-Day Start Acting Challenge, you’ll recognize the process. If you haven’t, you’ll pick it up by watching.
What it actually looks like.
It’s on Zoom. The vibe is supportive. People show up because they want to get better, and that sets the tone: there’s laughing, and there are real notes. No pretense in the coaching and none in the room.
A class runs like this: someone, or more often two people, get up and work a scene. I coach them through it, give them things to think about, and everyone walks away a little clearer on how to approach their acting. You learn as much from watching someone else get a note as from getting one yourself.
James Larson
Working actor · Acting coach · 20+ years in the industry
I’ve spent over twenty years acting on stage, on screen, and in the booth, with 50-plus credits along the way. I trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, the original Meisner school. I’ve also directed and cast, so I know what someone on the other side of the table needs to see from you before they can say yes.
Actor Craft Club is where I share all of that in plain language. The Sunday class is the heart of it: live, and built around actually doing the work instead of talking about it.
Who the class is for.
Come if you’re…
- Starting out and want to see what real training looks like before spending money on it
- Already working and want a weekly place to stay sharp between jobs
- Tired of classes that are mostly lecture
- Looking for a coach who talks like a person
- Nervous, and want to watch once before you get up
Probably skip it if you’re…
- Under 18
- Looking for a one-off audition coaching session (that’s private coaching)
- Hoping for a free class every week
- Not able to be on Zoom with a camera and mic
What happens at the end.
At the end of class, I’ll share how you can keep working with us. We’d love to have you in class every week: getting better, keeping sharp, and adding to our community of like-minded actors.
Then I’ll take questions and that’s it. You decide on your own time. You leave with your notes either way.
Come see how the room runs.
